According to Gallup, only 36% of U.S. employees are engaged in their work. If you're a disengaged worker, how can you create a working life that you enjoy?
A great first step is to create a #career with #purpose. Here are 4 reasons why:
1) Outside influences are pulling you in multiple directions.
What can we learn from The Machine in the Princess Bride? It hurts to be pulled in multiple directions, simultaneously.
You are surrounded by countless possibilities, priorities and values.
Each one is competing for your time, energy and attention. Without a North Star to aim for, you're going to feel the pain.
2) You are a unique individual in constant evolution.
No labor market, company or job can tell you who you are or what you want.
To create a career with purpose, you need to take a journey inward. It's here that you create your aspirational identity, story and goals.
3) Starting with 'why' gives you fuel.
A career with purpose gives you a 'why'.
Your 'why' will give you the fuel to overcome the inevitable obstacles that will appear in your journey.
You may have heard the following from Nietzsche or Frankl: “He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.”
4) A career without purpose is hard.
It's not enjoyable to show up to work just for a paycheque.
Human beings crave a deeper meaning and purpose. And purpose is the foundation upon which engagement is built.
If you want to enjoy your days, years, career and life, it's time you created a career with purpose.
