Career discovery looks different everywhere, yet its heart is universal: helping students uncover what truly motivates them. For one South African learner, it happened when she realized her calling wasn’t tied to a single role - it was to help others feel stronger, healthier, and more confident in their bodies and minds.
Birgit Westermann-Winter, a registered industrial psychologist and career coach at People’s Dynamic Development in South Africa, guided a student through the digital Challenge Cards experience.
Birgit’s organization, People’s Dynamic Development, supports individuals and organizations through career guidance, coaching, and assessment tools that empower people to reach their full potential. They partner with schools, universities, and businesses to help learners and employees connect their strengths and motivations to meaningful career paths.
After sorting the digital Challenge Cards, this student shared her reflection, a beautiful example of what can happen when we shift the focus from job titles to challenges worth solving:
“Using this assessment tool has been a wonderful experience. It helped me discover how I’m drawn to roles where I can make a real difference in people’s health and well-being. By highlighting careers like midwife, dental hygienist, and personal trainer. It motivated me to see that my desire to help others feel better emotionally and physically can be applied in many practical and meaningful ways. Reflecting on these options has deepened my understanding of what truly motivates me. Overall, the tool has strengthened my confidence in choosing a career that aligns with my passion for improving people’s lives.”

Her words remind us that career exploration is not about fitting into a box, it’s about expanding possibilities. When students discover the challenges they care about most, they unlock direction, motivation, and confidence in their next steps.
