Our Contribution to Making Career Exploration More Accessible

At SparkPath, our vision is that every student can create a path to meaningful work and take ownership of their future. We are driven by the following belief: everyone can make a meaningful contribution. While this is true for most, our current systems still create barriers for too many people, including those with disabilities. To help achieve our mission, we knew we wanted to provide an accessible digital platform that everyone could benefit from. That’s why we initiated a project to certify our platform as accessible.

We began this project last summer, with the help of Accessible Web, a digital accessibility auditor, and our team of software developers. The process was lengthy, with several remediation and auditing phases to make sure our tool met the international standards in accessibility. Over 6 months, we tackled many user interface issues that ultimately helped us improve our tool.

Now, in early 2022, we are proud to provide a career exploration tool that meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. As we continue to grow, we will update our platform to ensure it remains compliant with the requirements set by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and its associated regulations.

Providing an accessible and barrier-free web environment is a shared effort, and we are committed as an organization to play our part to make accessibility for all a reality.
